Application of titanium and titanium alloys in chemical industry
Titanium in chemical industry has excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical properties and technological properties, and is widely used in many sectors of national economy. Especially in chemical production, titanium is used instead of stainless steel, nickel-based alloys and other rare metals as corrosion resistant materials. It is of great significance to increase output, improve product quality, prolong the service life of equipment, reduce consumption, reduce energy consumption, reduce costs, prevent pollution, improve working conditions and improve labor productivity. Titanium metal has become one of the main anti-corrosion materials in chemical equipment and has established its anti-corrosion status in chemical equipment. As an ideal material in chemical equipment, titanium has attracted more and more attention from engineers and technicians. After years of promotion, titanium and its alloys have been widely used in chemical industry as excellent corrosion resistant structural materials. At present, the application of titanium equipment has expanded from the initial soda and caustic soda industry to chlorate, ammonium chloride, urea, organic synthesis, dyes, inorganic salts, pesticides, synthetic fibers, fertilizers, and fine chemical industries. The types of equipment have developed from small and simple to large and diversified. Heat exchanger survey results show that titanium heat exchanger accounted for 57%, titanium anode accounted for 20%, titanium container accounted for 16%, other 7%. In the chemical industry to "two alkali" mainly, the chemical equipment titanium heat exchanger consumption is the largest.
Benefits of Titanium in Chemical Industry
There is such an example: In salt production, the preheater made of copper tube will be seriously corroded and need to be replaced after used 10 months.
salt slurry pipe made of carbon steel will be corroded after used only half a month, need to be replaced 6 times once a year; if made of stainless steel also will be perforated after used 4 months. But replaced to titanium tube, no corrosion perforated after used 4 years.
So the one-time investment of titanium equipment is high, but the whole life cycle cost is relatively low, and the economic benefits are very obvious.
